Visitors in Flagstaff for New Year’s Eve should not miss the city’s traditional countdown celebration in downtown Flagstaff on December 31.  Like a giant holiday ornament, the Weatherford Hotel’s glistening giant Pinecone has been hoisted high atop the historic building with a digital countdown ticking away below it.
As Flagstaff’s traditional New Year’s Eve symbol for 16 years, the Great Pinecone is to Flagstaff what the glitzy giant ball is to New York City. Each year thousands of holiday revelers pour into the streets of historic downtown to see the 70-pound, six-foot, lighted aluminum creation.
